When father dies, stern son Hindley returns and bans Heathcliffe to the stables; when they spy upon their upper class neighbors, Edgar Linton sends the dogs upon them and chases Heath but starts an affair -love comes only from him- with her. The 1992 adaptation of "Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights" is a lavishly produced rendition of the timeless love story, featuring Juliette Binoche as Cathy and Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff. After a misunderstanding Cathy marries Linton, Heath retorts by a loveless match with his sister.

Drama So this version. (Spoiler alert) And this film tells the entire story, including Heathcliff digging up Cathy's grave to hold her corpse in his arms - love that drives you insane. Emily Bronte's classic tale of undying love and tormented passion. Heathcliff definitely comes off as the cruel, embittered man he is in the book, and it's great to see a TV movie capture the personalities of all the characters so well. Would recommend it. I love the book and I have seen many versions of it but the one that impressed me the most was the version of 1939 with Laurence Olivier. The addition of this scene to the film, not in the book, is a stroke of absolute genius! This particular film is notable for including the oft-omitted second generation story … After seeing devastating results of ethnic war in former Yugoslavia soldiers from UNPROFOR peace units find it impossible to return back to their civil lives in the UK. Bough this for my partner who is very into the Bronte's and in particular WH. This version is the closest to Emily Bronte's book, which makes it good - but for one caveat. A man becomes obsessed with vengeance when his soul mate marries another man. That does not detract too much from the enjoyment of this movie, which despite its choppiness, has excellent acting, beautiful cinematography (the landscapes are breathtaking), and a wonderfully wrought out, bitter plot which focuses on three generations of two families who are intimately interlocked with each other. When Hindley's socialite wife Frances dies in childbirth, he is completely embittered, becomes a drunk unable to care for his son Hareton and has to sell Wuthering Hights- to Heathcliffe. The Yorkshire moors form the bleak setting for Emily Brontë's timeless tale of a passion so powerful it defies all social boundaries, and finally challenges death itself. One who has never read the novel may find the action moving too quickly, so that the flow of the movie may seem slightly abrupt or choppy.
