I came into this film with unrealistically high expectations.
Clearly a lot of time and energy went into the production of this, but not enough of that energy went into developing the script. There's a good sense of mystery & creepy suspense for the first quarter or so, too, that really help to keep the viewer engaged.

If you don't have the budget for said special effects try tweaking the story, that way those special effects do not play such an integral role in the impact of the film's proceedings because if you don't present those effects in the right way, they can come off as silly. fun to see the budgie from jim carries the mask in this flick.
